What Does Jst Mean - "JST Connector" is short for a connector manufacturer called Japan Solderless Terminal, or a regional term for a variety of wire-to-board connectors, which may or may not be similar in design to Japan Solderless Terminals.
In a vernacular, exactly which type of conjunction is referred to depends on who is using the word and in what context. On this page I will cover the most popular connectors from Japan solderless terminals. Most of them are called "JST connectors" in various circles.
What Does Jst Mean
Note that compatible connectors are made by other manufacturers. Where I describe parts of numbers, I do so only for real parts. Most are maintained by Digi-Key (US) and Farnell (UK). Most will find it easier to get from eBay, but be aware that this is an unlikely source of genuine parts.

JST offers high quality hand crimp tools from their popular family. They are mostly made by the German contract crimp tool manufacturer Wezag GmbH, they will strip the contacts perfectly and cleanly, but they are all expensive. I've listed the part numbers for them where they are.
Some of these (especially PH/XH) are often seen on ebay second hand, and if you disable most of these connectors it may be worth checking, as they are easier to use than the best synthetics. .
For the more obscure models, no hand tool is offered, but JST sells a hand frame (YRS-XXX) for mounting their MKS-L tool legacy (used on the AP-K2N washing machine).
Unlike many other compact families where there isn't much in the way of good generic/budget crimp tools, there are

ZH is one of the smallest pitch types of JST holes. The smallest of these types are SMDs. I was told that these are typical 3D printer related applications.
This 2.0 mm pitch connector is very commonly seen in low-cost electronics and many pre-made hobby PCBs and components. They are dirt cheap, fairly compact but not particularly durable.
The WC-240 is nice to use, but there isn't much to distinguish it from a typical occasional use device. I personally do a lot of PH crime, so invest in a legit tool.
This is a slightly larger version of the PH connector, except for the 2.5mm audio jack, with slightly larger contacts of a completely different design. Also, most of them are available in low power. This family has an unusual title and welcome device - something I always like to see in communicator families.

I don't use them much but one of their advantages is length. The joint assembly is much smaller than any other type of connector I use. It's a shame the pitch isn't 2.54mm - I could have used more of it otherwise. That said, you can usually jam 2 or 3 (maybe 4) headers on a strip board if needed.
I won't cover the differences between these tools and generic tools, since they look similar, but I noticed something recently -
When we look at the crimps from the back, we can see that the first tool neatly wraps the entire insulation crimp, firmly pressing without piercing the insulation. This explains one of my biggest problems with these connectors, which went away when I first started using the device: the insulation keeps chipping away.
This problem is exacerbated with this type of connector because the transition from wire to connection is flush with the housing, so if a tear is already created by the tear process - it only takes a few moves to do so. . on the dirt

These are very similar to PH/XH but not normal. These are commonly found in consumer products (for example: Japanese brand LCD TVs) that must perform well in the HALT test.
They feature a proper latch instead of the weak friction latch used by their PH/XH cousins. Another sign in an unexpected place
Accept the same contacts as PH/XH. PA shares contact with PhD family. XA has its own unique connection type that looks like an advanced PH connection.
The EH is a 2.5mm pitch connector that is installed in low-cost products where a portable connector is required, but the PCB real-estate is very compressed. They are much smaller than XH connectors.

SM is a type of wire-to-wire connector that has become very popular in recent times. Given that it doesn't have a wire-to-board option, I'm not sure exactly why.
RCY is a small field of only 2 connectors, and like SM it is wire-to-wire only. I have never seen or used it. They seem to be commonly used in small battery packs
It seems that the manual crimp tool is only provided for male contacts. $1000+ YRS frame for female contacts, death of eligible applicant specified. Since the conductor and insulation crimp is the same for each, the WC-121 can crimp the female contacts, but the locator must be folded and the contacts placed by hand.
Top Tiny Winnie Mountain from JST is just family bonding. It is usually found inside the laptop to connect various components to the motherboard. Housings are available with "wings" to aid breaking. The housing is "SH" and the header is "SR".

This is similar to the list above, but in a two row configuration. It is commonly used in LCD/LVDS applications.
Like the list above, again only a surface mount but with a better grip and a completely different type of mating surface.
VH is a large type JST connector with positive latching and is widely used for high voltage and/or high current connections. The most likely place to find them is the power supply connection for Japanese-style appliances.
Those who visited my site a few years ago may have seen these pictures, but mistakenly identified them as Molex KK .396 connectors. They look the same, and have the same specs, but I didn't know my stuff at the same time.

Just because it's not listed here, doesn't mean it's not a JST connector JST has a large product range. JST connectors are electrical connectors manufactured to standard designs developed by J.S.T. Mfg. Co. (Japan Solderless Terminal).
JST connectors are used in many types of products and are commonly used by consumer electronics and consumer products in rechargeable battery packs, battery chargers, battery discharge circuits, 3D printers and radio-controlled servos.
The term "JST" is sometimes incorrectly used as a slang term for any white electrical connector installed on a PCB.
It is used in radio control (R/C), known as BEC or P connector. It is commonly found in small models, toys and small LiPo packs.

Most through-hole JST headers cannot withstand the temperatures required for re-soldering, as the plastic has a lower melting point than it was designed for soldering. Some JST surface mount headers are designed to handle high reflow temperatures.
D-Users and third-party sellers on eBay often describe connectors by their incorrect names thus increasing the confusion of the correct listing for a particular connector. It is very common for blogs and websites to incorrectly refer to a specific connector by the manufacturer's name alone.
To reduce confusion, it is best to describe the connector using: manufacturer name, exact series of connection and optional pitch, such as "JST-XH" or "JST-XH-2.50mm" or "2.50 mm JST XH-series" or other versions.

Note: Some 2.50 mm parts are incorrectly sold online as 2.54 mm (0.100 inch) and 1.25 mm parts as 1.27 mm (0.050 inch). When reading about cool projects and products, it's common to see cable plugs labeled "JST connectors". It looked good until we started getting hands on and hacking things together. Inevitably we find that a JST connector from one site fails to fit into another JST connector. At this point we learn that "JST" is not a combination. Abbreviation for Japan Solderless Terminal Manufacturing Company Limited. The company has a history dating back to 1957 and their website (written in 1999) lists hundreds of different brands.
We can easily use "JST connector" when talking about projects. But when it comes to the actual hardware specifications, it's not good.
The truth is: we live in a world full of confusing link details. Sometimes we choose to ignore the "unused parts inside" and happily look at tools for which we don't have all the details. As hackers, we need some skills to understand the mysterious connections. We'll start here with a quick survey of the most popular types from JST.
A typical pin-to-wire connector is a series that is probably an RCY series. When the connector interface instead of two or more wires on the circuit board, it can be one of the following series. A quick way to narrow down the candidates is to check their pitch: the distance between nails. Identification then becomes a matter of visual comparison with the data.

We start with the JST XH series. Its 2.5mm pitch is effectively equal to 0.1″ pitch
